Trenching and installation for lawn, pasture and acreage irrigation , clean, correctly-depthed lines and tidy backfill that leaves your yard intact.
In a high, dry climate like the Big Horn Basin, water is everything. A well-installed irrigation or sprinkler system is what keeps a lawn green through a hot Wyoming summer, keeps pasture productive, and keeps new landscaping alive long enough to take root. And a system is only as good as the trenching and installation underneath it , clean lines, the right depth, and backfill that doesn't leave your yard looking like a battlefield.
JH Excavation handles the excavation side of irrigation across Powell, Cody, Ralston and the surrounding Basin , trenching mainlines and laterals, installing sprinkler and irrigation lines, and backfilling cleanly so the finished yard looks like we were barely there.
Whether it's a residential lawn system, a large acreage or pasture setup, or the irrigation phase of a new-build landscape, we bring the equipment to do it efficiently and the care to do it neat.
- Sprinkler and irrigation mainline and lateral trenching
- Line installation at correct, consistent depth
- Residential lawn system trenching
- Large acreage and pasture irrigation runs
- Clean backfill, compaction and yard restoration
- Coordination with landscape prep and final grade
- Long-run trenching across large properties
Clean, Correct-Depth Trenching
The difference between a professional irrigation install and a weekend headache is in the trenching. Lines need to be at the right depth , deep enough to protect them and, for the components that require it, deep enough to help against freezing , and run cleanly to where they're going. We trench with equipment sized to the job, which means straight, consistent lines and a fraction of the mess and time of hand-digging.
On bigger jobs , long runs to a far corner of the property, pasture and acreage systems , machine trenching isn't just faster, it's the only practical way to get consistent depth over distance. We handle those long runs without tearing up more ground than necessary.
Tidy Backfill & Yard Restoration
Anybody can dig a trench. Leaving a yard that doesn't look like it was dug up is the real skill. We backfill and compact irrigation trenches carefully, keeping topsoil where it belongs and settling the ground so you're not left with sunken lines snaking across the lawn after the first watering.
The goal is simple: a working system underground and a yard above it that looks essentially untouched, ready for sod, seed or the lawn you already have to bounce back fast.
New Builds & Landscape Coordination
Irrigation is often part of a bigger landscape or construction project, and it's cleanest to handle it in the right sequence , trenched and installed before final grade and sod, coordinated with the other dirt work. Because we also do grading and landscape prep, we can fold the irrigation phase into the whole plan instead of you juggling separate crews trying not to dig up each other's work.
That coordination saves time, money and torn-up ground , one outfit sequencing the trenching, grading and prep so everything goes in the right order the first time.
Questions About Sprinkler & Irrigation
Do you install the sprinkler heads and controls too, or just the trenching?
Our core role is the excavation side , the trenching, line installation and clean backfill that the whole system depends on. For specialized components and controls we're glad to coordinate with your irrigation specialist or landscaper so the sequence works and nobody's digging up someone else's work.
Will my yard be torn up after?
Not the way a hand-dug or careless job leaves it. We trench cleanly, keep topsoil separated, and backfill and compact so the ground settles properly. Most yards recover quickly, and it's cleaner still when we handle it as part of the final grade and landscape prep.
Can you trench across a large property or pasture?
Yes , long runs across acreage and pasture are exactly where machine trenching pays off. We keep the depth consistent over distance and get it done far faster than hand-digging, without chewing up the whole property.
